MOTHERS MATTER IN CHILDBIRTH UPDATE.

After all the training of the Volunteer Health Teams (VHT's) and boda boda drivers had taken place, all was now in place for our Mothers Matter in Childbirth (MMC) mission to receive mothers.

We are excited to announce that MMC had its very first success story at the beginning of October, for which we are so thrilled and thankful for.

All systems worked perfectly: from the vulnerable pregnant mother being educated by a VHT member of the MMC programme, then the labouring mother being collected by boda boda getting her to the nearest health facility for safe delivery, and then taking mother and baby girl home to the waiting dad.

In the six weeks since, twenty-five mothers have delivered a total of twenty-seven babies successfully at the health centre. This is such encouraging news, especially knowing that prior to this mission the health centre would normally only have a total of three mums in a month give birth there.

We are so grateful to all involved - the team on the ground doing the work and to our supporters who are enabling this initiative to take place. It is a huge step forward in safe healthcare for the remotest villages in Western Uganda, where maternal deaths are so high during childbirth.
